In the years before the Civil War, the state’s Citizens’ Bank of New Orleans issued ten-dollar notes with “dix”—the French word for “ten”—written on one side. The widely circulated bills became known as “Dixies,” and some argue the term was later appropriated as a geographical nickname, first for New Orleans and Louisiana and then for the entire South. According to Federal Law and EBAY Policy reproduction notes are printed on two separate sheets of paper. The front (obverse) is printed on one sheet and the back (reverse) is printed on another sheet. The word "COPY" is printed on the back of each sheet of paper. The two sheets can be displayed back to back in a sleeve or album page giving the appearance of a complete note without "COPY" showing.
